When the furnace blows cold air on a damp January morning or the air conditioner quits on a hot September afternoon, the cause is usually one failed part, such as an igniter, a flame sensor, a capacitor or a clogged drain, not the whole system. Our technicians find which part it is, explain it in plain words and give you an itemized price before any work starts. We repair, maintain and install heating and cooling equipment for homes in Novato, San Rafael, San Anselmo, Larkspur and Sausalito.
Heating and cooling in Marin homes
Marin’s weather is mild, but it is not the same everywhere. Mornings near the water in Sausalito, Larkspur and the bay side of San Rafael are often cool and foggy, while Novato, San Anselmo and the north side of San Rafael get noticeably hotter summer afternoons. Winters are cool and damp, so the heat runs for much of the year, and many older homes were built without central air.
That shapes most of the work we do:
- Furnace repair and heating repair: gas and electric furnaces, wall furnaces and older forced-air systems in houses from the early 1900s through the 1960s. Ignition faults, flame sensors, pressure switches and blower motors cause most no-heat calls.
- AC repair: systems that sit idle for months and then fail on the first hot inland afternoon, usually because of a weak capacitor, a dirty outdoor coil or a refrigerant leak.
- Heat pump services and ductless mini-splits: the common way to add cooling to a house that never had it, and to heat rooms the old ducts never reached.
- Duct repair: crushed or disconnected runs in tight crawlspaces are a frequent reason one bedroom stays cold while the rest of the house is fine.
- Replacement: furnace installation and AC installation when a repair no longer makes sense, sized to the house rather than copied from the old unit’s label.

When something stops working
Start with the symptom. Our guides to AC not cooling, furnace not heating and strange HVAC noises explain what usually causes each one, what you can safely check yourself and when to switch the system off and call. More symptoms are listed on the problems page.
If you smell gas, hear a carbon monoxide alarm or notice a burning electrical smell, leave the house first and call the gas utility or 911 from outside. For no heat on a cold night or water coming through a ceiling, see emergency HVAC.
How a visit works
- Call or book online. A real person answers 24/7 and helps you judge how urgent the problem is. Same-day service is usually possible when you call before noon, and appointments run from 8 AM to 8 PM every day.
- Diagnosis. The technician tests before replacing anything: airflow, electrical readings, ignition and safety controls, and refrigerant pressures where they matter.
- Itemized price. You see what failed, what the repair involves and what it costs before work begins. No hidden fees, and no pressure to add work you do not need.
- Repair and check. Repairs use factory certified parts. The parts carry the manufacturer’s warranty and our work carries a labor warranty. The system is run and checked before the technician leaves.
Our technicians are EPA-certified, fully licensed, insured and background-checked.
All major brands
We are an independent service company, not affiliated with any manufacturer, so we work on whatever is installed: a Carrier or Lennox furnace in a hall closet, a Goodman or Rheem condenser beside the house, a Mitsubishi or Daikin mini-split on a bedroom wall. The brands page lists the rest.
Maintenance plans
A yearly check is the simplest way to avoid a no-heat call in December or a dead AC in the first heat wave. HVAC maintenance covers the furnace before the heating season and the air conditioner or heat pump before the warm months. Our maintenance plans add priority scheduling and discounts on repairs.
